Is the Kruger a Malaria-risk area?

Yes, the Kruger National Park is located in a malaria-risk zone. The risk is highest during the wet summer months (October to May). We strongly recommend consulting your doctor or a travel clinic before your trip regarding malaria prophylactics. Additionally, we advise wearing long sleeves in the evenings and using insect repellent (available to purchase at camp).

What should I pack for the safari?

We recommend packing light and sticking to neutral, earthy tones (khaki, beige, or olive). Avoid bright colors or white, which can show dust easily. Essential items include: A warm jacket or fleece (morning drives are chilly, even in summer!). A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen. Binoculars and a camera with extra memory cards. Comfortable closed shoes or trainers (no heavy boots required).

What is the tipping etiquette for guides?

While tipping is entirely voluntary and at your discretion, it is a standard way to show appreciation for excellent service in South Africa. As a general guideline, we suggest R150 - R200 per person per day for your safari guide, and a small communal tip for the camp staff at the end of your stay.

The Journey East: Your adventure begins with a personalized collection from Johannesburg or Mbombela. Relax in the comfort of our climate-controlled transfer vehicle as the urban skyline fades, replaced by the rolling landscapes of Mpumalanga.
A Thrilling Entrance: Upon reaching the park’s gates, the real magic begins. You’ll transition into our custom-built, open safari vehicle, your window to the wilderness for the next three days. Almost immediately, your first guided game drive commences as we wind our way through the bush toward your rest camp. Keep your binoculars ready; the "Big Five" don't wait for check-in!
Retreat & Recharge: After arriving at camp, settle into your private, en-suite chalet—a sanctuary of comfort amidst the sounds of the African bush. Enjoy a leisurely lunch at your own pace before taking a moment to breathe in the fresh savannah air.

The Dawn Chorus: We depart before the first light of day, entering the park during the "magic hour" when predators are most active. Under the expert guidance of your tracker, you’ll focus on the fresh tracks of the night, seeking out Lion, Leopard, and Rhino in the crisp morning air. There is nothing quite like watching the African sun crest the horizon from the back of a safari vehicle.
The Mid-Day Oasis: After a successful morning on the trail, return to camp for a hearty, included breakfast. As the South African sun reaches its peak, the bush goes quiet. Take this time to embrace the "safari siesta"—relax by the pool, browse the local curios at the camp shop, or simply enjoy a quiet moment on your chalet’s veranda.
The Afternoon Waterhole Watch: As the shadows lengthen, we head back out to explore the park’s vital water sources. This is the prime time for "Elephant parades" and massive Buffalo herds as they congregate to drink. Your guide will interpret the fascinating social behaviors of these giants as the bushveld prepares for the transition to night.

The Sunrise Send-off: Every morning in the bush is different, and your final dawn drive is no exception. We depart early to maximize your last few hours in the wild, specifically tracking any elusive species still on your bucket list. Whether it’s a final pride of lions or a rare bird sighting, we make every minute count before saying a temporary farewell to the park's untamed plains.
A Hearty Farewell: Return to camp for a final, sumptuous breakfast. Take a moment to soak in the atmosphere of the bushveld one last time as you check out of your accommodation. This is the perfect time to exchange contact details with your fellow adventurers and share your favorite photos from the trip.
The Transition Homeward: We exit the park gates and transition back into our comfortable transfer vehicle. As we begin the journey back to Johannesburg or Mbombela, the rugged scenery of the Lowveld provides a beautiful backdrop for reflection on the incredible encounters of the past three days.
Return to the City: Arrive back at your drop-off point in the late afternoon or early evening (typically by 6:00 PM). You’ll conclude your SafariStay journey not just with a camera full of photos, but with a soul recharged by the spirit of the African wilderness.
